HOW to ...   ALPHA 2 User's Guide


Though one of the most intuitif player on the planet, may not be always obvious how to ... do something.
This page is here to help you find what you need.

First, always remember the following:
1) Positioning the mouse cursor on an area will show a tool tip.
2) Right Clicking often open a context menu or execute a function.

USER'S MANUAL

Playing:

Specific file:
- Right Click on the player body, Select "Play file or Playlist".
- Right Click on the player body, Select "Play URL".
- Double Click an associated file type.
- Right Click a media file and select "Open with Alpha 2".
- Drag and Drop a media file onto the player (if "AutoPlay" is set).
- Open History, Select a Playlist, Double Click a media file.
- Open Library, Double Click a media file.
- Open FindFile, Click a media file if (Right Click option) "Click on Play" is set.

Many files:
- Right Click on the player body, Select "Play file or Playlist", select multiple files.
- Drag and Drop a folder onto the player (if "AutoPlay" is set).
- Open Library, Double Click Albums or Tracks to fill the "New List", Set AutoPlay and Click "Add ...".
- Open FindFile, Set AutoPlay and Click "Add ...".
- Open Smart Playlist Maker, Set AutoPlay and Click "Create Playlist".

Playlist:
- Open History, Select a Playlist, Set AutoPlay and Click "Load selected Playlist".
- Open History, Set AutoPlay and Double Click a Playlist.
- Right Click on the player body, Select "Play file or Playlist", select a playlist.
- Drag and Drop a playlist file onto the player (if "AutoPlay" is set).


Playlist Operations:

View Current Playlist:
- Right Click on the player body, Select "Show Playlist".
- Click the Playlist button.

Add files:
- Right Click on Playlist button, Select "Add File(s) / Playlist(s)".
- Right Click on Playlist button, Select "Add Folder / Drive". *
- Right Click on Playlist button, Select "Add URL".
- Left Click the Add button (+) to add file(s) or playlist(s).
- Right Click the Add button (+) to add a folder or drive. *
- Drag and Drop a media file onto the playlist.
- Drag and Drop a folder onto the playlist.
- Open Library, Double Click Albums or Tracks to fill the "New List" and Click "Add ...".
- Open Smart Playlist Maker, Choose a filter and Click "Create Playlist".
- Open FindFile, type search string and Click "Add ...".
Notes: * = That may take some times !

Add a Playlist:
- Open History, Select a Playlist and Click "Load selected Playlist".
- Open History and Double Click a Playlist.
- Right Click the Playlist button, Select "Add File(s) / Playlist(s)".
- Left Click the Add button (+) and select a playlist(s).
- Drag and Drop a Playlist file onto the playlist.

Save current Playlist:
- Click the "Save" (Diskette) icon.

Clear current Playlist:
- Click the "Clear" (Cross) icon.

Convert a Playlist to another format:
- Clear the current playlist.
- Load the playlist to convert.
- Click the "Save" (Diskette) icon and specify the desired format.
Note: The original Playlist file is not deleted. Due to copyright issues, some playlist formats may require registration.


Meta Tags:

View:
- Right Click a file in the Playlist, Select "File Properties".
- Click on the properties display.

Edit:
- Click on a text box to manually edit it, Click "Update".
- Click on a down arrow to fill a text box with filename.
- Click on "CopyPaste" to copy/paste from other tags.
Note: Due to copyright issues, some tags formats may require registration.


Converting:

Start the Converter:
- Right Click a file in the Playlist, Select "Convert ...".
- Right Click on the player's body to open the main menu then select "Power Tools / Converter".
- Right Click an audio file in file explorer then select "Convert with Alpha2".
- Select a file in the Library then Click the "Convert" button.
- From "Power Tools / CD info", Click Options then "Save and Convert all".
- From "Power Tools / Search and Rescue", Click "Convert" or "Rip".

Step 1: - Select files for conversion.
- Check / Uncheck the littlebox on the left side.
  You may add more files by clicking "Add files".
  You may listen to a file by clicking the play icon.

Step 2: - Select the output format.
- Click the Preset button, select a preset then click "LOAD selected Preset" OR
- Select a format from the left box and adjust settings as needed.
  You may save your current setting by clicking the "Preset" button then "Create New Preset".
  You may adjust (or wreck everything) the encoder properties by clicking on "View Command Line".
  You may also edit Meta-Tags (and Output Filename) for the converted files by clicking the "Tags" button.

Step 3: - Select the output Location.
- Check / Uncheck the little box to create, or not, a folder [Artist-Album] for each file.
- Use a preset folder or click "Browse" to set the common output folder location.
  Check the "Add to Playlist" little box to have converted files added to the player's Playlist



Listening to the Radio:

Open NetRadio:
- Click the "ALPHA 2 NetRadio" icon on your Desktop, Start menu, Quick Launch menu.
- Right Click on the player's body to open the main menu then select "NetRadio".
- Click the "NetRadio" icon on Alpha 2 Player.
- Click an audio file in a website then select "Play with Alpha2". (Only Mp3/Ogg)

Listen to a station:
1) Select a band from either the "AM" or "FM" button.
2) Select a station from the list (scroll to see all).
3) Click the "play" button.

Recording:
- Click the "Record" (Red) button.
  (Bright red means Active, Blinking means writing data).
  Right Click the "Record" button to set Options like recording Location.

Finding more stations:
1) Click the "Search" icon. (small magnifier on the left side).
  2 web pages will open in your default browser: ShoutCast and IceCast
2) Select a station from the list to add in a preset list.



Finding an Album Cover:

Open Library:
- Right Click on the player's body to open the main menu then select "Open / Library".
- Click the Library icon.

Steps:
1) Check "View Cover Art".
2) Select a song.
2) Click on the Cat image.



Mixing Songs:

1) Open ALPHA 2 Player:
  Play a song.

2) Open Library:
  Play a song.
  Check "Enable Mixing"
  Use the Slider to mix between both songs


Quickly Find Songs:

1) Open File Finder:
- Click the "Search" icon in the Player. (small magnifier).
- Right Click on the player's body to open the main menu then select "Open / File Finder".

2) Search:
  Start typing song's name, filename, artist, etc...

  You may also open "History" to find a song in Playlist or Favorites
  You may also open "Library" to find a song by Artist or Year
